My name is Liya Garcia. I’m only 20 years old, and I never imagined I would one day have to ask for help like this.

I’ve always worked hard to earn everything I have and build my own future. I’m a simple person, and I truly believed I could overcome any challenge on my own. But in a single moment, my life changed forever.

On June 19, I went to retrieve some of my belongings that were still in my ex-boyfriend’s possession. All I wanted was to collect my things and move on with my life. As we spoke outside, the situation quickly escalated. After an argument, he began threatening to destroy my belongings.

Within seconds, he violently slammed me to the ground with his full weight. The impact was so severe that I lost consciousness. Even after I was unconscious, he continued to beat me in broad daylight while several people witnessed the attack. Someone called an ambulance, and he was arrested at the scene.

Since that day, I have been living in fear. I suffered a severe concussion, a broken nose, and fractures to my nasal cavity. I am still recovering in the hospital, and every day has been both physically and emotionally challenging.

Unfortunately, I do not have health insurance, and because of the severity of my injuries, I will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. Without any source of income, I am facing one of the most difficult times of my life when I need help the most.

The funds raised will help cover my medical expenses, hospital bills, medications, and follow-up care, as well as legal fees so I can pursue justice. I also need assistance with relocation expenses so I can move somewhere safe and begin rebuilding my life away from my abuser.

My recovery will be long and demanding. I will require ongoing neurological care for my concussion, therapy to help me recover from the physical and emotional trauma, occupational therapy to regain my independence, and extensive dental treatment to repair the damage caused by the assault.

I never imagined I would have to rely on the kindness of strangers, but today I have no other choice. Every donation, no matter the amount, is more than financial support. It is hope. It is safety. It is access to the medical care I desperately need. It is a chance to seek justice and rebuild my life.
